In the movie, what makes people get relationship with someone possible?
And how do we know it? People who are not similar with each other at the first time are moving to each other with tender feeling when something happens.
The something may derive from the good feeling toward the other sex, adolescent curiosity, passion to love and exhibit one's art and even cyber chatting full of sexual contents. As audiences, we'd like to watch how these people, whose characters are very unique, are connected together.
The interesting is that this movie is very kind to show the change of the character's mind. Let's talk about POV shot. For example, in the scene of Richard's working place, we see Christine's face and the next shot is her POV which sees Richard talking to others.
Meanwhile, everywhere except him becomes dark (by designing the unique lighting), therefore we cannot help focusing on his face. And then the normal circumstance (everywhere is bright) returns. This means the feeling which she feels toward him is very strong concentrated. Let's take another POV's effect. During the break, Nancy (manager at the art center) turned on TV and watch Christine's Portfolio tape. Christine shows her sincerity as a artist in it. At last, she pays attention to her speaking. This scene is arranged by Nancy and Christine's shot & reverse shot. Furthermore, As the size of the two characters becomes bigger, we can guess two character's relationship will be better than before. It's not only shot which help the audience feel the change of the relationship between the characters. There is mi-sen-scene to show the developed relationship between two people, Peter and Sylvie. In Sylvie's room, they lie down on the carpet. Then, see its color. It's soft pink. (pink symbols love.)
There are so many cinematic tools to acknowledge how the relationships are improving. Therefore, I have fun watching the movie and understand the theme of movie easily. It's very meaningful time.
